AHHHHH sorry it has been so long! Things seem to get much busier in the city, 24 hours is just NOT enough! … so the run down on things… well we still LOVE IT… we love our place, our neighborhood and our jobs! Jill is a Maria Mok Tuesday’s through Saturdays and Kelly is over at Gossip Girl Monday- Fridays. There schedules are pretty opposite…. But Saturday nights and Sundays are their adventure times!

Jill’s job is going well in the East Village. Maria Mok is a high end salon, has a nice funky twist to it and the BEST people work there with her. Being right near St. Marks is fun too because you never know what you are going to see! We met up down there one day after work and after walking around famished for an hour trying to find the perfect place, we settled on Cooper 35… an asian pub.

Now this was our first asian pub experience, actually we had no clue there was even such a thing as an asian pub.. but MAN OH MAN it is a new fav J drinks (like good ones) are $4 a piece and dishes range from $3-$9… so we each got a few $4 Mojitos and a Schmorgus Borg of amazing food (think asian fusion meets irish pub) for a pretty decent price… not to mention that the soundtrack to this fabulous place was pretty much the whole Third Eye Blind album. Over all this place becomes one of our favorites. And gets 5 golden stars!!!! Its located on the corner of Cooper Square and 6th Street in the East Village.

That night we decided to hit up Sessions 73 on 1st Ave (and you guessed it 73rd). WOW to make a night more about the 90’s there was a great cover band there playing just about any kind of mid 90’s music you could think of. They did a nice job of mixing in some classics and some present day hits, but all in all they were a cover band that you could sing along EVERY word to every song they chose! TONS of fun and a great way to laugh, remember old times, dance like you’ve always wanted, and enjoy some drinks. It wasn’t as cheap as our Cooper 35 find earlier but was about average for the city. Apparently they also have some decent food and are a good dating atmosphere during the week? (at least that’s what YELP says)

What else… We found out we have cable even though we aren’t paying for it… well we have about 10 channels which include CSPAN, CSPAN2, TBS and the CW… which makes Kelly very excited for catching reruns of Gossip Girl in the off season… BUT we do plan on getting it even just for the internet aspect, but we have just been making due fine without it.

The only other news is our pet BOB… see bob is a mouse that comes and goes through our apartment. We don’t want to hurt bob but are pretty freaking scared when we see him… the first time consisted of us in rainboots with buckets, brooms, and on chairs searching through every nook of our place. He was no where… BOB he’s a smart little guy you know. SO we set up a trap a “Free BOB” from the apartment mission. We bought a humane trap that will lure him in and he will be stuck inside a box, this way we can release him in the park nearby… We haven’t caught him yet, he is a sneaky sucker, but are sure that the Cheez It covered in Peanut Butter will definitely attract him… he tends to disappear for a few days at a time and then show up again… he must be visiting other apartments. We will hopefully release him to the park soon and can tell you all about that adventure.

Until next time

Its us again. SOOO the move-in went well, a lot faster than we expected. We left from CT around 8:30 Saturday morning, and after a few detours due to not being able to drive a U-Haul on the Hutchinson, we made it to 82nd Street safely! It was about 90* out and super humid, thank goodness we brought that cooler of water and Gatorade!

Thanks to Jill’s brother Zack, Kelly’s parents, Jill’s Mom, and Kenny… we got all of our stuff (beds, couch, tables, dressers, clothes, Jill’s accessories and much MUCH more) up our 4th floor walk up in about an hour and a half! We showed our families our new neighborhood and scarfed down some yummy sandwiches from the deli down the street, the only thing left was saying “goodbye”… MAN OH MAN was that hard L (we miss you all terribly)

Meanwhile… Back up on the 4th floor…. We had HOURS of unpacking. WOW we have too much stuff. Some things were quite challenging, like building our beds and dressers. (ikea does not make those directions simple at all!) But at least this time we would have beds to sleep in, instead of on the floor. We worked from 2:00PM – 2:30AM stopping once for some very disappointing Chinese food. It started up again at 9AM on Sunday. Christian visited and took us out for a celebratory dinner at Doc Watsons YUM their burgers are to die for and their French fries UGH some of the best! Then Jill and I finished the decorating and setting up around 11:00PM. SO it was a long weekend BUT we are all unpacked and completely moved in… well except for the fact that our TV only plays DVD’s in black and white… hmmmm….

Monday brought on some gallivanting in Central Park… and any time we gallivant it is always an adventure! We saw some crazy things like, a girl hula hooping nonstop for an hour, kids out to recess, a private yoga lesson, and a Japanese Tourist taking a countless number of pictures of the private yoga lesson!!!!!! After chowing down our PB&J picnic lunch we made it past the baseball fields full of games where Jill assured Kelly “not to feel left out because we would be part of a team soon enough!”

That night we decided to treat our mangled hands and aching feet from moving in and took ourselves down to a nail place on 77th to get Mani/Pedi’s for only $20!!!! We could get used to that! Tuesday brought some pretty exciting stuff as well! Kelly had an interview in the morning and scored a job by 6PM in the Art Department on Gossip Girl which starts Monday :) and Jill started her first day of work at the kickass salon. Today brings about some drizzly weather, Jill is back at the Salon for day 2 and Kelly did some laundry... just a typical day in the life of living :) ... ALL in ALL this adventure is off to a GREAT start!!!!

Our New "DIGGS"

And we're back, well kind of, back in the terms of writing!!! So on Wednesday we decided to move some of our stuff in. We wanted to pick up our keys and thought well we might as well bring a car load... get a little preview of what was to come with our U-Haul adventure on Saturday. Jill took the train in early because she had an interview at a cool place in the East Village, and Kelly made the trek in her car to meet her there around noon. We grabbed a nice lunch at the Gracie Cafe to recharge our energy for that lovely hike up our stairs.....

BOY OH BOY did we underestimate living on the 5th floor of a walk up... HOLY sore legs. We took turns bringing things up and staying next to the car but both agreed that one floor below ours is when exhaustion hits... we didn't think it would all make it up there! (sad thing is, this is just the pre-move-in ... move in) Saturday should be VERY fun :)

After moving some stuff in, Kelly went to talk to a guy about props on a film, and Jill decided to document ever nook and cranny with her camera... 40 pictures of our 4 room apartment haha. (You can see some of them below) Then we cleaned some, organized things, realized it is very hard to build furniture using a shoe instead of a hammer,
went for a walk around the neighborhood and the park, picked up a pizza and some wine
and headed back to our place to drink and dine picnic style on our living room floor. After thoroughly entertaining ourselves just being silly for HOURS (no tv, games,or cards wedidnt think that one through) we called it a night.. crawled into our sleeping bags and spent our first night in our apartment on the floor of the living room terrified that pigeons might joins us in the night as we kept the windows open to cool down the place.

We are back in CT finishing up packing and squaring away the odds and ends. Off to the big city for good Saturday morning at 8:00 am :) Below are some pics of our "Diggs" (which thanks to Katie we found out it is the cool way to say place) haha.

"we just signed away our lives (for a year)"

let the day go down in history... May 24th, 2010 ... We wrote the biggest checks of our lives to date and signed a lease "through sickness and health, 'til death do us part" to our very own first apartment :) YAY

it all started... well... it all started, when we were set up on a "girl date" by some guy friends in high school, and we have been besssts ever since (thanks boys)!! but the NYC thing... well that started in the late summer of 2009. Kelly had been itching to make the move to NYC since college graduation and was determined that this "year" was her year. After a slight set back due to a health surprise her autumn move was postponed... but gave her just in enough time to convince Jillian NYC was where it was AT! Jill had been itching to move to Boston for quite some time... hoping to work in a trendy salon on Newbury Street, but with some poking, prodding, and a little convincing, we both decided that either city would be fun as long as we were together, and hey, who says we can't do both?!?!? (eventually mom and dad, eventually)

SOOOO NYC won and our next step was, well our next step, was EVERYTHING and let me tell you, we are still figuring it all out. BUT we do know one thing, we know where we are living :) and are thrilled about it! We are on the Upper East Side in the low 80's close to the East River. A few minutes walk down the street and we have a gorgeous view, and few more minutes some great dog parks and a beautifully gardened city escape, and a few more some of the best bars NYC has to offer! We move in the first week of June which has snuck up on us soooo fast!

Check back often for some highlights, advice, stories, recommendations, and basically everything you want to know about our move and our first year of our big adventure!! :) Here is a sneak peak at our place... more photos and videos to come next week!

Love,
Jill and Kelly
